25/3/26

What do you think of when we ask you about your perfect day? Some people may go extreme, a trip to the Bahamas, the ride on the biggest rollercoaster or meeting a celebrity. Others prefer the simple pleasures, maybe just a cup of tea with family or a nice ten hour long sleep. Although fun to think about, most people may never work to intentionally fulfill this perfect day. But at Midlands Care, we like a challenge! So we asked ourselves, what if we could fulfill the perfect day of every single person in our care. From here, our perfect day project was born.

Our wonderful team of activities coordinators have made a start, having meaningful conversations to ask the perfect day question. These conversations in themselves have been magical. Often leading to joyful reminiscence, with visiting family and friends joining in and sharing in the excitement too. Even the less chatty residents come out of their shell at the prospect of planning something exciting, something that has been so special to see.

One lady, who is usually not a fan of outings, talked about her love of singing and her old choir that used to be a big part of her life. She sang with her daughters, followed by tea cake and a good chat-  something she would love to recreate. Well, what was stopping us? The home’s activity duo contacted the group, and of course remembered her, welcoming her back for a wonderful session with her daughters again.

Another gentleman grew up and worked on farms, and has very fond memories of these times. He is a big lover of horses and wished he could spend some time with them again. So that is what was planned. A wonderful trip to a local riding school, followed by a yummy meal of fish and chips. Simple, yet wonderful. And really, isn’t it just these simple things that mean the most?

What about the idea of returning to your childhood home, roaming the streets you used to know so well? That was exactly what was arranged for another gentleman, a trip back to his old village. The pub he used to meet friends at after work, a drive past the field where he spent hours playing football, his first school, his first work place-  all of the places that hold so many memories. It really was a day full of nostalgia and meaningful moments.

These are just some examples and the many amazing experiences that are taking place. We should thank our director, Charlie, who never fails to come up with new ways to enrich the care that we offer, and was the one to ask this question in the first place. As well as, of course, our amazing activity team who continue to go the extra mile, making these wishes come true. Stay tuned to find out what other adventure everyone gets up to. With some of the discussions taking place, we certainly predict some exciting times ahead!
