Our Specialist Approach To Dementia

Midland Care is delighted to offer a unique and tailored Day Care Facility for those with Dementia, Holmfield Day Centre. The Day Centre provides an excellent first step for families looking for some respite or enrichment for their loved ones. The center boasts highly trained staff, home-cooked meals, and tailored activities that aim to support those with Dementia care homes and offer them opportunities for development and fun. Personalised care plans and a specific focus on Dementia Care, means families can rest assured that their loved one is in very safe hands.

If you need further, more permanent care, our residential homes are also experts in managing and supporting those with Dementia. Once more, we pride ourselves on offering person-centred care and care plans are an essential way in which we ensure everyone’s experience with us is unique and tailored to them. Unlike Day Care which provides a rest-bite experience, residential care is a full-time placement where a loved one will move into one of our homes. This is the perfect choice for those looking for constant companionship and support, around-the-clock on-call assistance, and planned meal and activity schedules that ensure they are always well looked after.

Why Choose Our Services?

  • Personalised Care Plans: Designed to meet individual requirements and needs for optimum development and support.
  • Round-The-Clock Daily Living Assistance: Help with day-to-day tasks, encouraging autonomy and independence.
  • Medication Management: Help with assessing and managing individual medication. Offering close attention to ensure residents receive the optimum support for their comfort and improvement.
  • Companionship and Engagement: Daily activities and time spent with others in similar situations. Offering exciting opportunities for new hobbies and friendships.
  • Nutritious Home-Cooked Meals: All of our homes provide home-cooked nutritious and well balanced meals throughout the day, with access to snacks and more.
  • Giving Caregivers A Break: We know better than anyone, that sometimes the challenges that come with age and illness can be daunting and require a team to manage. Let our care team become your team too! We can support your care and, in turn, allow your relationship to flourish.

What is the cost of dementia care?

We can carry out a free & no-obligation care needs assessment service, which is where a specialising Home Manager would come to assess the care requirements – and we can do this within 24 hours of your initial enquiry! Prices start from £1,175 per week, however we recommend that you get in touch with us to discuss this further.  A dementia care centre costs £70 a day for private residents. For both types of care, if eligible, we accept council and local authority funding – contact us to find out whether you would be eligible.

Why Choose Us

At Midlands Care, we understand the profound impact that dementia can have on individuals and their families. Our mission is to provide exceptional dementia care that aligns with our core values of togetherness, positivity, and compassion. We are committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where residents can thrive and families can find peace of mind.

Our Approach to Dementia Care in Leicester

Every person living with dementia deserves respect, dignity, and a high quality of life. We understand that dementia affects people differently, and care must be tailored to each one individually.

Our approach to dementia care is built on personalised practices. This means that we treat each resident as an individual, recognising their unique needs, preferences, and personal history. Our goal is to promote independence and enhance well-being through a range of supportive services and thoughtful care strategies. These include;

Specialised Care Plans

When a resident joins one of our care homes, we start by getting to know them. Our experienced care team conducts a detailed assessment to understand their medical history, personal background, daily routine, and specific needs. This information helps us create a personalised care plan that addresses their physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being.

Because dementia is a progressive condition, meaning it changes over time, our care plans are regularly reviewed and updated. This ensures that as a resident’s needs evolve, our approach adapts to provide the right level of support at the right time.

We also involve family members in this process, as they often have valuable insights into their loved one’s personality, past interests, and habits. By working together, we ensure that each resident receives consistent, effective, and compassionate care.

Highly Trained Staff

Caring for someone with dementia requires skill, patience, and understanding, which is why our staff receive specialised training in dementia care. Our caregivers are trained to;

  • Recognise and manage symptoms such as memory loss, confusion, anxiety, and mood changes.
  • Use compassionate communication techniques, including speaking calmly, using simple words, and offering reassurance.
  • Assist with daily activities such as eating, dressing, and bathing while encouraging independence where possible.
  • Support emotional well-being by providing companionship and a comforting presence.
  • Stay updated on the latest dementia care practices through ongoing professional development and training.

Safe and Supportive Environment

For individuals with dementia, feeling safe and comfortable is essential. That is why we design our care homes to be as supportive and stress-free as possible. We create familiar surroundings that minimise confusion and promote a sense of security. Some of the key features in our dementia care homes include;

  • Secure outdoor spaces where residents can enjoy fresh air in a safe and enclosed environment.
  • Comfortable common areas designed to feel warm and homely, reducing feelings of isolation.
  • Well-lit hallways and rooms to help prevent falls and increase visibility.

By ensuring a calm and structured environment, we help our residents feel more at ease and more confident in their daily activities.

Engaging Activities

Keeping the mind active is just as important as physical health when it comes to dementia care. That is why we offer a range of engaging activities designed to stimulate memory, encourage social interaction, and bring joy to our residents’ daily lives.

We carefully select activities that are gentle, enjoyable, and suited to individual abilities, such as music therapy, including listening to familiar songs and playing musical instruments to help reduce anxiety, boost mood, and spark happy memories, arts and craft sessions like painting and drawing to help with self-expression and relaxation, and reminiscence therapy, including looking at old photos, storytelling, or discussing past events that can trigger pleasant memories and encourage conversation.

Gentle physical exercises like seated yoga, stretching, short walks and activities like gardening are also included to help provide a sense of accomplishment and connection to nature, as well as improve mobility and overall health.

Each activity is designed to support cognitive function, reduce stress, and promote a sense of purpose. Whatever our residents enjoy, we have something to suit everyone’s needs and preferences.

Why Our Approach Matters

At Midlands Care, our approach to dementia care is more than just providing assistance. It is more about enhancing the quality of life. We treat every resident as a valued individual, ensuring they receive the support they deserve.

By focusing on personalised care plans, skilled staff, a safe environment, and engaging activities, we create a nurturing and fulfilling atmosphere where residents can feel respected, understood, and happy.
