Funding the care of loved ones – how does it work?
At Midlands Care, we are experts in understanding that funding is one of the key questions and causes of anxiety amongst families when it comes to care for their loved ones. There are so many burning questions from, how much do care homes cost, to do I have to pay for it, and will the local council support me?

How much are care homes?
Fees vary and are based on individual needs of loved ones and this is why we offer free, no-obligation care assessment services. From assessing medication, to walking aids and dietary requirements – our care assessments cover all varieties of needs, preferences, likes and dislikes. Taking all of this into account, our team of healthcare specialists are able to provide a weekly fee for the care of your loved ones. If you are interested in the free, no-obligation care assessment service, please call us on 0116 296 0700, or alternatively click here to enquire.
Am I eligible for funding from my local council?
In order to be eligible for funding by your local council, whether it be Leicester City Council, Leicestershire County Council, Warwickshire County Council or others; assets held by the individual seeking care must be below £23,250. Assets tend to include cash in bank and perhaps their home if owned by themselves. If assets are below the £23,250 threshold set by the government, then the social worker will be able to support with allocating the correct level of funding for the care of your loved ones. Midlands Care work extremely closely with councils, and many of them are our strategic partners, which is why they agree to fund the care of hundreds of residents in our care homes.
If you don’t have access to a social worker, or you have any further questions, please give us a call on 0116 296 0700.
What if I am not eligible?
Our team of healthcare specialists can still talk through the next steps with you. If you or your loved one is not eligible for complete funding, there are still other methods to ensure that your loved one receives the care they well and truly deserve. This is quite common, and there are many individuals that would receive funding from the council, and then apply a ‘Top-Up’ to meet the weekly fees. Top-Ups allow families to contribute a smaller amount to meet the fee set by the care home.
Alternatively, if you are not eligible for either, then this would be classed as a ‘Self-Funded’ resident. Many individuals follow this path, giving them access to a more ‘all-inclusive’ fee. This allows loved ones to pay for their own care, in their own comfort.
