Portland House
Portland House is the proud winner of the ‘carer of the year’ award featured and recognised by the Leicester Mercury. We are privileged to have been acknowledged as a high standard care provider by the Leicestershire County Council who has honoured us with the GOLD QAF award. Our high standard of care is thanks to our reliable carers, experienced management team and professional catering and domestic staff. Our aim has always been to ensure that the very highest standards of care are maintained and meet current legislative standards.

A family owned and managed residential home for elderly people, it combines the very latest amenities and living aids together with a wealth of period features creating a unique charm and character.

We pride ourselves on the stimulating activities that are part and parcel of life at Portland House. Our wide range of activities include outings to local places of interest, mini day cruises , visiting entertainers, games and puzzles, flower arranging, films shows and arm chair exercise.

The aim of all our activities is to give everyone the opportunity for meaningful participation and to promote choice and stimulation – making friends and companions and having fun on the way!

Set in beautiful and quiet surroundings within the heart of residential Kirby Muxloe. Portland House is located on Portland Road and is one of the earliest properties built on the ‘Kirby Fields’ estate in 1875. Within the friendly surroundings of our beautiful building, we aim to provide a true home from home environment. The real measure of any residential facility is the time and care devoted to residents each and every day.

Portland House is full of character and is a historic property that was built during the reign of Queen Victoria in 1875. The building benefits from modern adaptations, extensions and facilities to provide comfort and care for the elderly. Extensive ramps throughout the gardens, walk-in and hydraulically assisted bathing facilities and passenger lift help to make Portland House a comfortable and, above all, safe ‘home from home’ for our residents. Each and every bedroom includes en-suit facilities, nurse call system and a fire alarm.

Outside, we are proud of our peaceful and private garden environment, including our on-going development of the Portland Sensory Garden located on the lower ground floor level. The gardens are easily accessible through our conservatory and provide a rich natural environment popular with all ages.

All too often we hear negative reports about care for the elderly. I would like to say something positive about the care home that my mother in law lived in. Sadly, she passed away in April 2014, but she lived at The Leys, Booth Rise, Northampton, for the last six and a half years of her life. They showed her nothing but compassion, affection and respect. The staff were dedicated, friendly and always treated everyone with respect. People who choose to be carers are really special people. I sincerely thank all the staff at The Leys for the excellent care they gave to my mother in law.

The home is very clean and never smells. The staff are very kind to residents and to myself. The food is very good an lots of encouragement to eat is given by the staff. Health and safety always being attended to. Activities for people with dementia I have only put good because they cant always participate due to the demand so only good. I feel I can always ask staff for support. Mum was in other home this is much better and Abbey the manager is excellent

I would like to thank the home for providing Bert with a home he was very happy in. Also for giving Bert your time to visit him in hospital; Bert really appreciated this. Thank you for your kindness you showed me towards the last few weeks of Berts life. It was a great comfort. Thanks again!
